Ongoing Holocaust Memorial Project
11 Million Hands for 11 Million Lives is an ongoing Holocaust memorial project created by artist Franceska McCullough who wants to humanise the enormity of the individuals killed by the Nazis during World War 2 while bringing cultures all over the world together to remember how valuable all human life is regardless of who we are, what we look like, where we come from or what we believe in.
One hand equals one life and all hands represent all the estimated 11 million Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, Poles, Romani/Sinti, Homosexuals, Africans, non-Europeans, political prisoners, disabled people, Roman Catholics and others killed by the Nazis. This project aims to bring an understanding of equality to all the victims of the Holocaust and never forget anyone because all human life is precious and must be valued despite our differences.
11 Million Hands for 11 Million Lives has been linked up to the charity War Child UK so that all funding generated by this project during its development and after will directly benefit children in need now in today's conflicts so that peace can be achieved for future generations and the past will not be repeated. To donate towards War Child in the name of this project please follow this link: www.justgiving.com/11millionhands
If you would like to join in then please submit a photo of your hands to: www.facebook.com/11millionhands
Please remember to pose your hands cupped together and palm side up for peace to the dead they represent as well as hope to the children of War Child.
Some important things to think about before joining this project:
1. Please be respectful of all contributors
2. This is a peaceful project and doesn't intend offense
3. Hand photos are primarily taken with camera phones and therefore don't have the technology to support fingerprinting; it is also not the objective of this project so please remove this fear from your minds. If very concerned please consider covering fingertips with an object or gloves.
4. If you are genuinely afraid of sharing a photo of your hands; please instead consider sharing this project with as many people as you know as this helps a great deal and is much appreciated. Also consider donating to War Child UK through the project funding website: www.justgiving.com/11millionhands.
5. All humans, all genders, all ages, all races, all religions, all lifestyles and all locations around the globe are welcome to join in!
6. If you have a story/connection to the Holocaust or a war taking place in today's world and are comfortable with sharing this then please contact the artist
7. Its okay to disagree with this project but it is not okay to send hateful messages. Please consider your words before you make contact.
8. Anonymous hand photos are welcomed so please don't feel obligated to offer your name if you'd rather keep this information private. The information you offer with your photo is entirely up to you.
